Ginebra – El Castillo.
Advanced Level.
Mountain Trail.
THE LANDSCAPE CHANGES WITH EVERY STEP
From open mountain trails into the Andean forest
The route begins along mountain paths surrounded by open vegetation.
Little by little, the landscape grows denser. Shade, humidity and cooler air appear as we make our way toward the higher reaches of the mountains.
Along the trail, viewpoints open out across Valle del Cauca, while the surrounding vegetation creates an ideal setting for spotting birds and experiencing the region’s biodiversity.
A long, demanding hike for travelers who genuinely enjoy walking and want to experience the landscape from within.
THE JOURNEY
From Ginebra to El Castillo, step by step
01. Climbing toward the forest
The journey begins with a steady climb along open trails surrounded by mountain vegetation.
As we gain elevation, shade becomes more frequent and the landscape gradually grows denser. The air gets cooler as the trail leads us deeper into the Andean forest.
It is a demanding start, but also a chance to take your time, watch for local birdlife and begin discovering the natural diversity of the mountains.

02. A break at Finca El Silencio
After the climb, we reach a cooler plateau surrounded by nature.
This is where you’ll find Finca El Silencio.
We stop here to rest and recharge with a breakfast featuring local flavors, accompanied by coffee from the farm or locally made grape juice.
A quiet moment to slow down, share the experience and take in the scenery before getting back on the trail.
03. Down toward the waterfall
The route continues toward Cascada Estrecha.
Hidden among the vegetation, its clear waters offer the chance to stop for a refreshing swim before taking on the final stretch of the hike.
The landscape changes once again. The sound of water, the humidity and the surrounding vegetation create a more secluded side of the journey.

04. The valley opens up
The trail eventually leads to one of the route’s most impressive viewpoints.
From here, the panorama opens more than 180 degrees across Valle del Cauca. On clear days, you can see far across the region, with the outline of Cali visible on the horizon.
After hours of walking through forest and mountains, the scale of the valley finally reveals itself.
A CHALLENGING ROUTE
For hikers comfortable in the mountains
This is not a beginner hike.
The distance, elevation gain and overall length of the journey require good physical fitness and previous experience on mountain trails.
Along the way, you’ll encounter sustained climbs, descents, uneven terrain and sections that may be wet or slippery.
There’s no need to move fast, but you should be comfortable maintaining a steady pace for several hours.
This experience is a good fit for you if:
- You exercise regularly.
- You’re comfortable walking long distances.
- You feel confident on uneven mountain terrain.
- You’re looking for a demanding route and are prepared to enjoy it at a steady pace.
The challenge is part of the experience. This isn’t about racing to the finish, but about crossing the mountains safely while still having the energy to enjoy every part of the journey.

BEFORE YOU COME
Bring what you need to enjoy the trail
This is a long journey through mountain terrain. Bringing the right gear will help you stay comfortable and move safely throughout the day.
Hiking footwear
Wear hiking boots or trail shoes with good grip.
The route includes uneven paths and sections that may be wet or slippery, so everyday sneakers or casual footwear are not recommended.
Sun protection
Bring a hat or cap and wear sunscreen.
Although parts of the route pass through vegetation and natural shade, the sun can be strong on exposed sections of the mountains.
Change of clothes & towel
If you’d like to swim at the waterfall, bring a complete change of clothes and a towel.
Keep them inside a waterproof bag in your backpack so they stay dry during the hike.
Cash
At Finca El Silencio, you’ll have the opportunity to buy locally produced artisan coffee.
We recommend bringing some cash if you’d like to take a bag home with you.
